The Start of the Fire<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Great Fire of London started on Sunday 2nd September 1666 in the King’s bakery in Pudding Lane. The fire raged for almost five days destroying over\u00a013,200 houses, 87 parish churches, the Royal Exchange, Guildhall & St. Paul’s Cathedral. Despite the devastation caused by the fire only a small number of Londoners perished in the fire.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Rebuilding London<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On Thursday 5th September all of the major fires had been extinguished & the task of rebuilding London was given to Sir Christopher Wren. Wren’s new design for London featured new wider streets leading from spacious piazzas & a new St. Paul’s Cathedral as the centrepiece. The new street layout was not accepted & the City was hastily rebuilt following the original medieval street layout.<\/p>

Sir Christopher Wren was responsible for building the Monument for the Great Fire of London (finished in 1677) & the new St. Paul’s Cathedral.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

El Monumento al Gran Incendio de Londres fue dise\u00f1ado por Christopher Wren y Robert Hooke. Catedral de San Pablo<\/a><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Ha habido varias catedrales en el sitio de St. Pauls que datan del 604 d.C. La m\u00e1s notable de ellas fue la catedral construida por los normandos entre 1087 y 1240. Norman St. Pauls fue el edificio m\u00e1s grande de la Inglaterra medieval, dur\u00f3 casi 600 a\u00f1os y sobrevivi\u00f3 a la Reforma y la Guerra Civil Inglesa. En agosto de 1666, Christopher Wren finaliz\u00f3 los planes para restaurar la catedral, aunque poco m\u00e1s de una semana despu\u00e9s, St Pauls fue destruido en el Gran Incendio de Londres.
