Bankside Pier si trova sulla sponda meridionale del Tamigi vicino al Millennium Bridge all'interno del London Borough of Southwark. Bankside si estende dal Blackfriars Railway Bridge fino al confine di London Bridge City ed è uno dei nuovi luoghi turistici di Londra. Bankside e l'area circostante ospitano una varietà di attrazioni storiche e contemporanee tra cui il Borough Market, la Southwark Cathedral, il Clink Prison Museum, il Golden Hinde II, il Globe di Shakespeare, la Tate Modern, la Bankside Gallery e il Millennium Bridge. Southwark svolse un importante ruolo difensivo e fu bruciato da Guglielmo il Conquistatore durante la conquista normanna nel 1066. William non fu in grado di attraversare il ben fortificato London Bridge e viaggiò per oltre 50 miglia a monte di Wallingford per evitare altri passaggi sicuri tra cui Reading.
Durante l'era Tudor, Bankside era sede di numerosi stabilimenti che non erano consentiti nella City di Londra, inclusi teatri (compresi i teatri Rose e Globe), fosse per la caccia agli animali, bische e bordelli. Bankside è stata la patria di molti famosi londinesi tra cui William Shakespeare durante il 17° secolo e poi Sir Christopher Wren durante la costruzione della Cattedrale di St. Paul nel 18° secolo.
Bankside Pier è a 7 minuti a piedi* dalla stazione di Blackfriars, servita dai National Rail Services e dalle linee della metropolitana Circle & District di Londra. Il molo è anche a 11 minuti a piedi* dalla stazione di London Bridge, servita dai servizi ferroviari nazionali, dalle linee della metropolitana Jubilee e Northern London e da numerosi autobus.

As part of Transport for London’s on-going commitment to upgrade & improve their piers Bankside Pier will be closed between 7-24 May 2019.

The Thames River Services Summer Timetable returns on the 1st April 2019 & cruises to the Thames Flood Barrier will operate daily until late October 2019.
