Autumn Half Term

There’s plenty to do on & around the River Thames during half term. Thames River Services operate cruises between Westminster, St Katharine Pier (for Tower of London) & Greenwich linking some of London’s top destinations & attractions.

Below we’ve listed five ideas & events for the August Half Term from sightseeing cruises on the River Thames to family experiences at the National Maritime Museum & Tower of London. If your looking for an exciting evening in Greenwich then an Unlocked Tour or Halloween Tour at the Old Royal Naval College is not to be missed.

1. Take a cruise through the Thames Flood Barrier

This week is our last week of cruises to the Thames Flood Barrier. Five barrier boats depart Westminster Pier, St. Katharine Pier & Greenwich Pier everyday. The final sailing of the season is on Sunday 28th October. After departing Greenwich Pier the cruise travels downriver past the Old Royal Naval College, the O2, under the Emirates Airline Cable Car & through the Thames Barrier before turning & cruising back to Greenwich.

2. Visit the new exhibitions at the National Maritime Museum

3. Take an Unlocked Tour at Old Royal Naval College

Explore parts of the Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich which are usually closed to the public on an Unlocked Tour.

4. Take a Halloween Tour at the Old Royal Naval College

Embark on a spooky Halloween tour of the Old Royal Naval College & discover stories of mischief-making, mud larking, misery and murder.

5. Sir Walter Raleigh at the Tower of London

Explorer & favourite of Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Walter Raleigh was imprisoned at the Tower of London three times! Visit the Tower this half term to meet Walter Raleigh & discover his story through live performances (11:00, 13:00 & 15:00 each day) & family activities.

Destinations

St. Katharine Pier is situated on the North shore next to Tower Bridge and near the Tower of London. St. Katharine Dock was constructed in 1837 by Thomas Telford and was popular with expensive cargo from around the world. Today St. Katharine’s is a haven for yachts with bars, restaurants and shops.

Thames River Services (TRS) have been operating daily sightseeing tours since 1986, our current service operates between Westminster Pier, St. Katharine Pier (for Tower of London) & Greenwich Pier. During the summer months we operate the only river tours to the Thames Flood barrier, departing Westminster Pier, St Katharine Pier & Greenwich Pier five times a day.
